Schema markup for hotels and campgrounds: the complete technical guide
LodgingBusiness, Campground, Resort, LocalBusiness — which schema to choose, how to validate it, and why Google uses it for rich results.
What is schema markup?
Schema markup (or structured data) is JSON-LD code you add to your pages' HTML to tell Google what you are. It isn't visible content — it's a machine language that Google, Bing and AI systems read to understand your property.
Concrete result: your pages can display rich results in the SERPs — star rating, price range, address, amenities — without visitors having to click through to see this information.
Which schema type fits your property?
Hotel
For hotels in the strict sense (with a permanent front desk). Lets you display starRating, checkInTime, checkOutTime, amenityFeature (pool, parking, restaurant…) in the SERPs.
LodgingBusiness
The parent type of Hotel, Campground, Hostel, Motel, BedAndBreakfast. Use it for atypical properties that don't fit a precise category.
Campground
Specific to campgrounds. Includes camping-specific fields: pets allowed, tents allowed, RV friendly. Google displays it differently from hotels in its booking interface.
Resort
For resorts with multiple integrated activities (spa, golf, restaurants…). Combines the properties of Hotel with additional fields.
Required vs. recommended fields
Required for a rich result: @type, name, address (a complete PostalAddress), telephone.
Strongly recommended: starRating, priceRange, geo (latitude/longitude), openingHoursSpecification, image (multiple), aggregateRating (if you have reviews).
Validate your schema in 2 minutes
Google provides a free testing tool: search.google.com/test/rich-results. Enter your page's URL and the tool checks whether your schema is valid and eligible for rich results.
Livada SEO automatically generates and validates schema for all your property types, with the correct fields for each type (Hotel, Campground, Resort…).
