What is /llms.txt?

The /llms.txt file is an emerging standard (proposed in late 2024 by Jeremy Howard) that lets site owners tell language models — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini — about the essential content on their site.

Think of it as a robots.txt, but for AI: instead of telling crawlers what not to index, you tell LLMs what to remember about you.

Why this matters for hotels and campgrounds

When a user asks ChatGPT "which hotel with a pool in the Gorges du Verdon for 2 adults", some modes (web search enabled) can pull fresh sources in real time. If your /llms.txt precisely describes your services and rates, that's an extra structured signal available to them — see below what this actually changes, and what it doesn't.

Validation: does ChatGPT really read /llms.txt?

For models without web access (ChatGPT without a plugin), there is no confirmation today that /llms.txt is treated any differently from the rest of your site's content in a future retraining pass — for better or worse.
