What is /llms.txt?

The /llms.txt file is an emerging standard (proposed in late 2024 by Jeremy Howard) that lets site owners tell language models — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini — about the essential content on their site.

Think of it as a robots.txt, but for AI: instead of telling crawlers what not to index, you tell LLMs what to remember about you.

What does an /llms.txt look like?

Why this matters for hotels and campgrounds

When a user asks ChatGPT "which hotel with a pool in the Gorges du Verdon for 2 adults", the AI draws on its training data AND fresh sources. If your /llms.txt precisely describes your services and rates, you have a direct edge over competitors who don't have one.

The /llms-full.txt file goes further: it can include your full main pages (descriptions, menus, activities) so the AI can answer questions about your property in detail.

How to generate it in 5 minutes with Livada SEO

In the WordPress admin:

  1. Go to Livada SEO → AEO
  2. Fill in your property's information (name, description, services, rates)
  3. Turn on automatic /llms.txt generation
  4. Livada SEO generates and updates the file every time your site changes

The file is immediately available at your-site.com/llms.txt and your-site.com/llms-full.txt.

Validation: does ChatGPT really read /llms.txt?

In web-browsing mode (Perplexity, ChatGPT with search enabled, Google AI Overviews), yes. These systems crawl pages in real time and check the standard files at the root of the site.

For models without web access (ChatGPT without a plugin), /llms.txt influences future training data — models are regularly retrained on web crawls.
