Are You Visible to AI? Test Your Site for Free (2026 Method)

Your site can be perfect on Google and completely invisible to ChatGPT. Here are 3 ways to check it yourself in a few minutes — and the free tool that measures it in 30 seconds.

A site that ranks well on Google can be completely invisible to ChatGPT. The two don't work the same way, and more and more customers are skipping the search engine altogether: they ask an AI directly. If it doesn't know you, it recommends someone else.

Good news: you can check your AI visibility yourself, for free, with no paid tool required. Here's how.

Why SEO and AI visibility are two different worlds

Google sends a bot to read your page and ranks it against others. Generative AI, on the other hand, needs to understand your business as an entity: who you are, where you are, what you offer — and above all, to be able to get in and read your content.

This is where it breaks down for the vast majority of sites:

  • No structured data (JSON-LD) that AI can interpret.
  • No clear entity identity (Knowledge Graph, Wikidata, sameAs).
  • Sometimes the host or CDN blocks AI bots outright — we see sites returning a 403 error to ChatGPT or Perplexity without even knowing it.

The result is always the same: excellent content, locked door. The AI passes you by.

3 free ways to test your AI visibility

1. Ask the AI what it knows about you

Open ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity and type: "What can you tell me about [your business name]?" If the answer is vague, wrong, or nonexistent, the AI doesn't know you as a trustworthy entity.

2. Ask the question your customer asks

Type the actual query a prospect would use: "What are the best [your business type] in [your city]?" If your competitors get mentioned and you don't, you're invisible at the exact moment the decision gets made.

3. Check that AI bots can get in

The main bots to allow are GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot (OpenAI), ClaudeBot and Claude-User (Anthropic), and PerplexityBot and Google-Extended. Many hosts and CDNs block them by default, without warning. A site that's invisible to AI bots will never be cited, no matter how good its content is.

How to fix what's blocking you

Once you have the diagnosis, the fixes are concrete and lasting:

  • Open access to AI bots properly (without opening the door to bad scrapers).
  • Publish structured data that AI can read: LocalBusiness, Hotel, Campground, FAQ schema, depending on your business.
  • Anchor your entity identity (Wikidata, sameAs, llms.txt) so AI knows who you are.

This is exactly what Livada SEO automates for WordPress: Google AND AI optimization in a single plugin. We applied it to our client sites — one of them reached 100/100 AI-readiness and started getting cited.

Be found by Google. And by AI.

"Be found by Google. And by AI." It's not a slogan — it has become a survival condition for local business visibility. The first step costs nothing — test your site and see where you stand.
